Who is Running to fill the Idaho District 1 State Senate Seat?

With the pending retirement of State Senator Shawn Keough in District 1, there are several Republicans that have thrown their hat into the ring to replace her.

In no particular order, they are, Danielle Ahrens, Scott Herndon, and Jim Woodward.

Danielle Ahrens is a 58-year-old mother and grandmother who retired from a career in law enforcement and continues to engage in public service as a board member for several organizations and the Chair of the Bonner and Boundary County GOP. Danielle recently earned the endorsement of 1st Congressional District candidate Russ Fulcher.

Scott Herndon has been a homebuilder since 2005 and according to his website, Scott’s priorities are abolishing abortion, state sovereignty, tax cuts, audits of state government and limited government.

Jim Woodwardowns Apex Construction and served 21 years in the Navy before that. He has earned the endorsement of the incumbent Shawn Keough.

As with any open seat, only time will tell who has the votes to win. With two of the three candidates having earned an endorsement of well-known names in the area it should be an interesting race to watch.

The Idaho Republican Primary is on May 15 and campaigns across the state are gearing up for some interesting races.
